Breast Reaugmentation – Implant Replacement

Description of the procedure and the resulting effect

We must remove the original damaged implant, possibly remove the gel that has leaked, and re-insert a new implant. All this in one intervention. However, if nothing prevents us, we will re-insert the implant through the original scar, which will again be almost imperceptible.

Description of the procedure and the resulting effect

Before the procedure, the patient agrees with the doctor whether she requires the same size of implants or has different wish concerning the size of her bust. Just before the surgery, the surgeon will make photo documentation, a drawing of the surgical procedure on the skin and answer all possible questions. Sometimes it is appropriate to combine the exchange with breast lift or other procedures (removal of the capsule, capsulotomy, breast shaping with own fat, etc.). The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts approximately half an hour to 2.5 hours, depending on the type of procedure chosen. The surgeon first removes the original implant, performs a thorough cleansing of the cavity, according to the finding, a capsulotomy or capsulectomy (capsule removal), breast lift, adjustment of asymmetry, movement of the implants into a new cavity under the gland or under the muscle is performed or the implants are placed in their original position. After the insertion, the surgical wound is closed again so that the scars are minimal.
In some cases, the breast implant only needs to be removed. This is a relatively minor procedure, which is sometimes associated with breast lift. Removal of the implant usually takes up to 30 minutes and is also performed under general anaesthesia. Pain after the procedure is minimal, if necessary, it can be managed with commonly available analgesics.
The final appearance of the breast after removal of the implant depends on a number of factors. These include, in particular, the size of the implant, its placement and the elasticity of the skin. Removing large implants can cause a very inaesthetic impression. Therefore, the surgeon usually performs breast lift, which tones and lifts the bust.
The scope of the surgery will be agreed upon during communication between the client, the agency and the clinic and will be specified in a personal consultation with the surgeon before the intervention.

Frequently asked questions about the procedure

Will I be in pain again after the surgery?

This is a relatively quick procedure. After the surgery, the patient is in less pain than after the first insertion of the implants, the cavity for the implant has already been created.

How long after the surgery shall I avoid exercising?

Talk to your surgeon, but basically avoid exercising for 4–6 weeks after the surgery. Longer activities in water are definitely not recommended! If your postoperative incisions become wet, dry them immediately. Other activities such as shopping or sedentary work, where you do not raise your hands, can normally be performed after one week. Wear your elastic underwear according to the surgeon’s instructions.

How long after the surgery can I start working?

Most people usually need 2 weeks to return to work, but each situation is different and depends on the doctor's recommendation. During the recovery period you must stop any significant physical activity for at least 1 month after the surgery. You should also avoid lifting heavy weights for at least 2 months after the surgery.
